The N.C. Turnpike Authority is authorized to study, plan, develop, construct, operate and maintain toll projects.
The following tolling projects, approved by local planning organizations, are under development:

Complete 540 The proposed project would extend the Triangle Expressway from the N.C. 55 Bypass in Apex to U.S. 64/U.S. 264 (I-495) in Knightdale.

Mid-Currituck Bridge Work would involve building the Mid-Currituck Bridge across the Currituck Sound in Currituck County.

I-485 Express Lanes Work would involve adding one express lane in each direction on I-485 from I-77 to U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard) in Mecklenburg County.

U.S. 74 Express Lanes: Conference Drive to I-485 Work would involve adding an Express Lane to U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard) from Conference Drive in Charlotte to I-485 in Matthews.

U.S. 74 Express Lanes: I-277 to Wallace Lanes Work would involve converting bus lanes on U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard) in Charlotte to express lanes from I-277 to Wallace Lane.
