NC Quick Pass HOV Accounts

    • What is an NC Quick Pass HOV account?

An NC Quick Pass HOV account is a transponder account used only for toll-free HOV travel in the I-77 Express Lanes in North Carolina. The account, used in conjunction with the NC Quick Pass HOV App or website, is one way to travel toll-free in the I-77 Express Lanes. Customers must set HOV status using the NC Quick Pass HOV App or website at least 15 minutes prior to travel in the I-77 Express Lanes. (Other methods to set HOV status include having a prepaid NC Quick Pass personal or business account and using either the NC Quick Pass E-ZPass Flex transponder or using any NC Quick Pass transponder used in conjunction with the NC Quick Pass HOV App.)

Drivers can sign up for an HOV account and travel toll-free in the I-77 Express Lanes with three or more people in the vehicle when the user has set HOV status through the NC Quick Pass HOV App. Travel in the I-77 Express Lanes without a set HOV status and on other North Carolina toll facilities will be invoiced through the Bill by Mail program at the Bill by Mail toll rate.

    • How does an HOV account work?

Drivers must register their NC Quick Pass transponder through the NC Quick Pass HOV mobile App or website. Once registered, drivers must set HOV status through the NC Quick Pass HOV moble App or website at least 15 minutes before travel in the I-77 Express Lanes.

When a vehicle with an NC Quick Pass transponder set as HOV status passes through a toll gantry in the I-77 Express Lanes in North Carolina, radio frequency readers automatically detect the HOV status with the associated NC Quick Pass HOV account and travel is toll-free.

Users can receive free monthly email statements listing their transactions or view statements online.

When a vehicle with an NC Quick Pass transponder travels in the I-77 Express Lanes without a set HOV status and on other North Carolina toll facilities, tolls will be incurred and will be invoiced through the Bill by Mail program at the Bill by Mail toll rate.

    • Will my transponder work outside of North Carolina?

No, your transponder is only valid for toll-free travel in the I-77 Express Lanes in North Carolina, when you have set HOV status and meet the occupancy requirement. Note, travel in the I-77 Express Lanes without a set HOV status and travel on other North Carolina toll facilities will be invoiced through the Bill by Mail program at the Bill by Mail toll rate.

    • What if I change vehicles or license plates?

You must update your NC Quick Pass account with any changes to your vehicle, license plate and/or transponder information to avoid potentially being charged for tolls in the I-77 Express Lanes. You can change account information by logging into your account or by visiting an NC Quick Pass Customer Service Center.

If you have changed vehicles, you will need to request a new transponder. Please note: you will also need to update your vehicle, license plate and/or transponder information within the NC Quick Pass HOV App or website.

    • I received a bill in the mail. What should I do?

You received a bill because your vehicle traveled on a North Carolina toll facility. You could also receive a bill if your vehicle traveled in the I-77 Express Lanes without HOV status being set or if your transponder was not detected in the express lanes. (Transponders typically are not detected because they are mounted improperly.) You must pay the bill by the due date to avoid penalties and fees.

Payments can be made online, through the NC Quick Pass automated phone system, over the phone or at an NC Quick Pass Customer Service Center or by mailing the detachable payment portion of the bill.
